Cold weather continues in the state due to snowfall. In many places the mercury remains in minus. From plains to hilly areas are in the grip of severe winter. Snowfall continued for the third consecutive day on Thursday in the high mountain areas of the state. At the same time, the weather remained bad throughout the day in the capital Shimla. There is no chance of getting relief from winter in the state at present.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain bad across the state till January 10. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain and snowfall on 8 and 9 January. According to the report of the State Disaster Authority Cell, 352 roads, 400 transformers and 44 drinking water schemes remained closed in the state on Thursday. Maximum 168 roads are closed in Lahaul-Spiti district.

Traffic was disrupted on 62 roads in Kinnaur, 55 in Chamba, 51 in Kullu, 9 in Shimla and 8 in Mandi. In Kullu, 146 transformers of electricity remained closed. In the last 24 hours, 70 cm of snowfall was recorded in Kothi.
