Siliguri: Bridge over Balasan river damaged by water, traffic banned

The diversion bridge over the Balasan river at Matigara is in dangerous condition. Heavy traffic has been banned. At any moment the danger may increase. This bridge over the Balasan river may become completely useless.

The incessant rains in the mountains for several days have caused the Balasan River to swell. The road connecting the temporary bridge made of humus pipes is broken by the river water. This road is being repaired during the war. However, it is not known when this work will be completed. However, it is difficult to repair the current of the water. To avoid accidents and to protect the bridge, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has convened a meeting and alerted the traffic police so that no heavy vehicles pass over the bridge.

Regarding this incident, ADCP of Traffic Department Purnima Sherpa said, ‘No city auto, cab, maxi will travel on this bridge. We will also take out the buses plying through Bagrakot along the Burdwan Road. It will not pass through the city. Besides, the movement of police and CRPF trucks will also be stopped through this Bailey Bridge
