Shock to Punjab government: Government officials will have to pay toll tax; NHAI canceled the proposal sent

The officers and employees of the Punjab Government will not be able to get exemption from the toll tax on National Highways. The proposal sent by the government to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been cancelled. NHAI has refused to accept this proposal. The Punjab government had also passed this proposal in the special session recently.

In its order sent to NHAI on June 8, the government said- Executive Engineer, SDO, JE, Patwari, District Collector, Deputy Collector Water Resources who cross the toll barrier for their duty. They should be made toll tax free. Principal Secretary Water Resources has also written a letter in this regard to the Regional Office of the National Highway Authority of India in Panchkula, Haryana.

Principal Secretary Water Resources wrote in his letter that the officials have to cross the toll plaza to perform their duty and they have to pay toll tax. This puts a burden on the exchequer of the government. In his letter, he wrote to NHAI that all the officers/employees whose category has been informed should be exempted from toll tax.

NHAI sent written reply
NHAI Regional Officer Vipnesh Sharma has written a letter to the Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department saying that the categories of officers and employees of the Water Resources Department do not come under the list of persons, officers etc. mentioned in Para 11 of the National Highway Fill Rule 2008. Due to which NHAI cannot accept this proposal of Punjab Government.

The Punjab government sent this proposal to NHAI on 8 June. But the same resolution was also passed by the Punjab government in the special session of the Punjab Vidhansabha convened recently. Which was approved by the Punjab Assembly. After which these officers will get exemption on toll of Punjab Government, but will have to pay money on toll of National Highway.
