Meetings of opposition parties are going on ahead of the presidential election to be held on July 18 in the country. The name of the candidate for the presidency is being discussed. According to media reports, the name of NCP Chief Sharad Pawar is being discussed in the opposition meetings. If the parties agree, then the opposition can make Sharad Pawar the candidate for the post of President.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge met Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Thursday. It is being said that Mallikarjuna, meeting Sharad Pawar, has hinted that the Congress agrees on Sharad Pawar’s name. Kharge has also spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in this regard. At the same time, on Sunday, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh also spoke to Sharad Pawar over the phone.

Sharad Pawar has been instrumental in forming many coalitions and coalition governments. The NCP chief was instrumental in bringing together Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress to oust the BJP from power in Maharashtra. When Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis resigned from his post, NCP leader Nawab Malik said that Maharashtra’s Chanakya Sharad Pawar has defeated all other Chanakyas. The BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government fell in just 3 days after the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

On June 15, Mamta has called a meeting of the opposition
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to 22 leaders of opposition including CMs of 8 states. In the letter, all 22 leaders have been invited to attend a joint meeting to be held on June 15. This meeting has been called at Constitution Club Delhi.

President Ram Nath Kovind’s term ends on July 24
Voting for the presidential election is to be held on July 18, while the results will be out on July 21. According to the rules of the Constitution, the process of election of the next President should be completed before the end of the term of the current President in the country. The term of the country’s President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on July 24.
