Shankar and his team members were present at the Grammys to accept the award. Shankar recently recalled his reaction when his name was announced for the prestigious award.

Speaking to the Press Trust of India (PTI), musician Shankar Mahadevan said, “These kinda feelings can’t be described in words because it’s a matter of honour and privilege.” “You’re completely blacked out when the name is announced. You have to walk that whole passage and go up to the stage,” he added.

Calling it a joy, he said that he was “very happy and blessed to be a small part of this recognition.” He added, “That’s a great feeling. I’d like to thank god for giving me this opportunity.”

Shakti sealed the top spot at the Grammy Awards leaving behind artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido. Interestingly, the band members recorded their parts separately from their respective hometowns during the production of the album which was released in 2023.

As people from all walks of life congratulated Shakti band members, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave a shoutout to them. Shankar Mahadevan had acknowledged the Prime Minister’s best wishes, calling him their inspiration. “Thank you so much sir!! Your energy and hard work is our inspiration to create and perform music from our country and make India proud all over the world !! Love you sir. Bharat Mata ki Jai !” the music maestro replied on X (formerly Twitter).
