Senior Advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court Vinod Ghai will be the new Advocate General (AG) of Punjab. He himself confirmed it. He said that he did not know anyone in the Aam Aadmi Party or the Punjab government, the government itself approached him. After which he agreed. He said that the cases filed by the government will be vigorously advocated. He will soon replace Advocate Anmol Ratan Sidhu. who have resigned from this post.
5 Advocate Generals in 10 months
In Punjab, 5 Advocate Generals have changed in the last 10 months. Advocate Atul Nanda was AG while Captain Amarinder Singh’s CM. Congress removed the Captain from the chair of CM and made Charanjit Channi sit. Channi Sarkar appointed Advocate APS Deol as Advocate General. This made the then Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu unhappy. On his insistence, DS Patwalia was made Advocate General. After this, when the government changed in the Punjab government, Advocate Anmol Ratan Sidhu was made AG. Now he has resigned in the AAP government. Advocate Ghai will replace him.
Chief Secretary and DGP also changed
Before the Advocate General, the Chief Secretary and DGP of Punjab have also been changed. Dinkar Gupta was the DGP in Captain Sarkar. Channi Sarkar appointed Iqbalpreet Sahota as DGP. Navjot Sidhu opposed this and got Siddharth Chattopadhyay appointed as DGP. However, VK Bhavra was made DGP shortly before the election code of conduct came into force. Now by removing Bhavra, the government has appointed Gaurav Yadav as DGP. At the same time, Vini Mahajan was the Chief Secretary in the Captain Government. Channi Sarkar engaged Anirudh Tiwari.
