SC angry with delay in accepting collegium recommendations: Said- don’t force to take tough decisions; Centre’s answer- appointment of 5 judges soon

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on the delay in the appointment of judges. Whose hearing took place on Friday. During this, the Central Government filed an affidavit on the collegium system. The government has assured that the recommendation of the Collegium for the appointment of five judges in the Supreme Court will be approved soon. The next hearing in this matter will be on February 13.

The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the delay in approving the recommendations for the transfer of High Court judges. The court told the government that this is a very serious matter. Don’t force us to take such a stand that will cause trouble.

The names of the judges were recommended by the collegium.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended 5 names to the government on 13 December. These included Justice Pankaj Mithal Chief Justice Rajasthan HC, Justice Sanjay Karol Chief Justice Patna HC, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar Chief Justice Manipur HC, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah of Patna High Court and Justice Manoj Mishra of Allahabad HC.

SC currently working with 27 judges
During the hearing, Attorney General R Venkataramani told a bench of Justices SK Kaul and AS Oka that the warrant for appointment of 5 judges would be issued soon. The session strength of judges in the Supreme Court is 34 including the CJI. Currently working with 27 judges. After the five judges take oath, this number will increase to 32.

Government bid- Include our representatives in Supreme Court Collegium, Law Minister’s letter to CJI
