The Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader also said that the Sanatana Dharma controversy would have no impact on the INDIA front in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Politics over the Sanatana Dharma row has escalated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) branding the opposition INDIA bloc “anti-Hindu” and sharing videos of senior DMK leaders making controversial statements on Hinduism. DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin who has been facing backlash over his “eradicate Sanatana Dharma” remark continues to remain defiant.

Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, the Tamil Nadu minister said, “Let us first talk about the CAG report. Let us talk about the seven and a half lakh crore. Let us talk about Manipur first. We will talk about the Sanatana Dharma issue later.”

When asked if the controversy could have an impact on the INDIA front in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Udhayanidhi reiterated that it would not.

“The Sanatana Dharma issue will not affect INDIA. Our leader is very strong. He is confident. The people of Tamil Nadu are confident. The people of India are very confident. The INDIA front will definitely win. The BJP is getting very anxious. They don’t know how to reply to the CAG scam. That is why they are twisting the Sanatana issue. Let’s talk about Sanatana later. First, let’s talk about the CAG report and the Manipur issue,” he added.

INDIA bloc partners like Congress, TMC, AAP, and Shiv Sena (UBT) have distanced themselves from the statement on Sanatana Dharma made by Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Another FIR was, meanwhile, registered against the Tamil Nadu minister near Mumbai. Responding to this, Udhayanidhi Stalin said he would face the cases.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin has written to his cadre, instructing them to not give room for “distraction”. In a statement to them, the Tamil Nadu chief minister said, “Sanatana Dharma is being used to cover up the BJP government’s failures. We should not give room for any distraction. BJP’s diversionary tactics should be defeated. We should talk more about BJP’s corruption and expose BJP’s corruption and defeat them in 2024.”

On September 2, Udhayanidhi Stalin called for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma and likened it to diseases like dengue, malaria, and Covid. Since then, the DMK leader has faced criticism from the BJP. However, Udhayanaidhi Stalin reiterated that he sticks to his “eradicate Sanatana Dharma” stance.
