Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Oppo Find N2 Flip: Foldables That Can Challenge Motorola Razr 40

It might not have the spec numbers or that amazing external display of its Ultra sharp Razr sibling, but the vanilla Moto Razr 40 has something much more going for it — a more affordable price tag. At Rs 59,999, the Razr 40 is easily the most affordable new foldable phone in the Indian market. And while it is not exactly a spec monster, it does pack in some very good hardware inside a typically Razr-like svelte and sleek design which is a blend of metal, glass, and vegan leather.

Motorola Razr 40 Specifications

Moto Razr 40 comes with a 1.5-inch external OLED display and a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED main display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, which is one of the best mid-segment processors around and not too far off the flagships of yesteryear in terms of performance. Photography is handled by a 64-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, with a 32-megapixel snapper inside that handles selfie and video call tasks. Moto Razr 40 actually has a slightly larger battery than the Razr 40 Ultra — a 4,200mAh battery (as compared to the 3,800mAh one on the Ultra model) with a 33W charger. All this is topped with Motorola’s clean and unobtrusive Android interface. At Rs 59,999, it makes the Moto Razr 40 a terrific proposition for anyone wanting a flip phone today.

But great value for money though it seems to be, Moto Razr 40 is not the only flip option for those wanting a flip phone. If you are one of those who like a phone that is compact enough to fit into the palm of your hand but flips open to become a regular-sized phone, here are three other options you should be looking at:

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Flip For This Still-Golden Oldie

Price: Rs 49,999

Hands down the biggest rival to the Moto Razr 40 in terms of sheer value for money is this flip veteran that still delivers a lot of flippin’ fun for a much lower price.  When it was originally released in 2021, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 seemed a little rough and ready but a number of software updates have made it a smooth performer and well, it is so close to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in terms of appearance and design that people still mistake it for its newer brother.

While its Snapdragon 888 chip might seem a little old, it is still more than a match for the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 on the Moto Razr 40, and its dual 12-megapixel rear cameras are capable of some great photography.

Of course, this being a Samsung, there is a lot of display wizardry on offer — on both screens actually. The 1.9-inch external display is great for seeing notifications and for some controls, while the 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED internal display with 120Hz refresh rate might have a visible ‘crease’ but is bright and delivers vibrant colours.

The only catch we would say is the 3,300mAh battery, which really cannot get through a day of normal use. But this is quite a phone to flip for if you are on a tight budget.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: The Golden Not-So-Oldie

Price: Rs 89,999

Why go for a Galaxy Z Flip 4 when the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is already on the horizon? Well, simply because the Galaxy Z Flip 4 remains a fantastic phone and hands down the most powerful flip smartphone in the market.

It might look like a replica of the Z Flip 3 with a 1.9-inch external display (although it is way more versatile) and a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED 2x internal display (which is significantly brighter and more vibrant) with a 120 Hz refresh rate, but comes with far more muscular innards.

It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is still a flagship-level performer (Nothing is using it in the soon-to-be-launched Phone 2), and its pair of 12-megapixel cameras can give any flagship in the market right now a run for its money, with the 10-megapixel selfie snapper taking great vanity shots and videos.

Battery life is decent, thanks to a 3,700mAh unit. This is the phone for those who want flagship-level performance in a sleek frame that flips. Keep your eyes and ears open, and you might grab it at a special price too.

Oppo Find N2 Flip: For Those Who Flip For Big Screens & Great Photos

Price: Rs 89,999

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is the flip phone of choice for photography. The phone comes with a terrific 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, but what puts them in a different league is the fact that they come with the trusted Hasselblad technology that makes the OnePlus 11 snappers such a sensation.

That’s not all. The Find N2 Flip also boasts a large 3.26-inch AMOLED cover screen, which was the largest of its kind before the Ultra brother of the Moto Razr 40 came along. It is a wonderfully bright display and its placement on the phone gives the phone a very unique, slightly broader look in the flip-and-fold crowd.
Oppo has put in some serious work to make this large-ish external display work well in sync with a really large 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED internal display with 120Hz refresh rate. The result is a refreshingly smooth performance.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor gives the phone some serious gaming muscle, and a surprisingly large 4,300mAh battery keeps it going well past a day of heavy usage. We also love the 44W charging speed — the fastest in the flip zone at the time of writing.
