Samsung Galaxy S23 Series To Be The First To Come With Gorilla Glass Victus 2

Carrying on the tradition of launching the first smartphone in the industry to incorporate Corning’s new Gorilla Glass protection, Samsung will unveil the flagship Galaxy S23 series with the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 that was unveiled a few months back. Corning had launched the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and claimed it is made up of a new glass composition and is designed to deliver improved drop performance on rough surfaces like concrete and asphalt.

This means that the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones will arrive with more durable displays.

“Our next generation of Galaxy flagship smartphones are the first devices to use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering better durability and improved sustainability at the same time,” Stephanie Choi, Executive Vice President and CMO of Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics, said in a statement.

According to Corning’s research, 84 per cent of consumers across three of the largest smartphone markets — China, India and the United States — cite durability as the “number one” purchasing consideration behind the smartphone brand itself.

During the unveiling of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, Corning’s said its lab tests results show that the glass survived drops of up to one metre on a surface replicating concrete. Competitive aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers “typically failed” when dropped from half a metre or less, the company claimed.

In addition, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 also survived drops up to two metres on a surface replicating asphalt and maintained scratch resistance up to four times better than competitive aluminosilicate.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Samsung announced it will host its first Galaxy Unpacked event in three years and sent out media invites for the flagship event, also its first in-person event since the coronavirus pandemic, that will take place on February 1 in San Fransisco. Samsung will also live-stream the launch of the Galaxy S23 line on its official YouTube channel, Samsung Newsroom, Samsung.com and Samsung India’s YouTube channel.

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will kick off at 10 am PST on February 1 or at 11:30 pm IST on the same day.

The new Galaxy S23 smartphones will come with different display and battery sizes and the premium Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature the best specs. It is being said that Samsung is likely to use AMOLED E6 panel on the upcoming Galaxy S23 series. The same AMOLED E6 was also featured on the new iQOO 11.
