The south-eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, collectively known as the Donbas region controlled by the Moscow-backed rebels were recognised by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21, three days before he ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Since coming under the control of Russia, many international food outlets in Donetsk have been renamed by home-based companies.

American companies such as McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Starbucks and Burger King joined other international outlets last month in temporarily closing all their operations in Russia after the country attacked Ukraine on February 24.
