Researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have come up with a formula to reverse the disease of diabetes. With its help, diabetes can be slowed down in its early stages. According to scientists, diabetes can be avoided by including 20% protein, 50-56% carbohydrate and less than 30% fat in your daily calories.

Keep carbohydrates low in diet
About 18 thousand adults took part in this research of ICMR. The research has been published in the journal Diabetes Care. Dr. RM Anjana, Vice President, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), says that old studies recommend completely eliminating carbohydrates from the diet. However, it is very difficult for Indians to do so.

Dr. Anjana further said- The results of our research show that even a small amount of carbohydrate with more protein and healthy fat can be reversed. Also, its growth rate can be slowed down.

How should the dinner plate be?

Diabetes patients should keep more green vegetables and protein in their food.

Diabetes patients should keep more green vegetables and protein in their food.

Dr. V Mohan, involved in the research, told that only vegetables should be in half the plate of food. These should include green-leafy vegetables and beans instead of starchy vegetables like potatoes. One-fourth of the plate should be rich in protein like fish, chicken or soybean. One-fourth should contain rice or two rotis.

7.4 crore diabetic patients in the country
Dr. Mohan said that 74 million people in India are suffering from type-2 diabetes. At the same time, 8 crore people are pre-diabetic. They are becoming diabetic very quickly. It is estimated that by 2045, there will be 135 million people with diabetes in the country. This figure is double as compared to today. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 50% of people are not aware of their diabetic status.

Type-2 diabetes is a common disease. In this, the blood sugar level of the patients becomes high. According to the International Diabetes Foundation, 537 million adults in the world are victims of this disease. According to the WHO, in 2019, 1.5 million people died due to type-2 diabetes.
