Rajasthan Govt To Give Free Tablet And 30 GB Internet To Over 55,000 Meritorious Students – News18

The Rajasthan government has announced its plan to distribute free tablets to students who have achieved scores above 75 per cent in the 8th, 10th and 12th board exams in the state-run schools over the past two years. As per the reports, a total of 55,727 students are set to receive the tablet.

The students will also be provided SIM by the government for a free internet facility along with tablets. The education department has planned to buy 55,800 SIM cards to provide SIM cards to government school students in the first phase. Through this SIM card, children will get 1 GB of data free of cost every day for three years.

Till now, the state government used to give tablets only to the children who performed best in the 8th, 10th and 12th class examinations of the state, but now the department will also provide three years of internet along with the tablet. The purpose of the scheme is to encourage online education.

As per reports, the government has started this scheme with a budget of Rs 18 crore. According to the Education Department, the process of SIM card purchase will be completed by the end of this month. From the upcoming session, the students will be able to avail the benefits of tablets and the internet free of cost. They can enjoy its service for three years. Under this, one GB data will be available every day i.e. 30 GB data per month and if not useful, this data will be added in the next month.

During the academic years of 2022 and 2023, a total of 27,866 students each year met the criteria for receiving the tablet but were not provided due to reportedly financial constraints. Among these, 1,254 students belonged to Udaipur. Under the leadership of CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, the initiative to distribute pending tablets from the previous tenure has started again. Deputy Director of Education, Sunita Chawla, issued the order accompanied by a list of eligible students. The District Education Officers are tasked with verifying the academic achievements of students within their districts. The verification report to the directorate is sent within seven days based on which the tablets are distributed to the eligible students.
