CHENNAI: Railway Board member for infrastructure and traction and rolling stock Sanjeev Mittal visited Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai on Wednesday and inspected production of coaches, especially the prototype coaches for Train 18 or Vande Bharat express.
ICF is aiming to finish the prototype rake by early 2022-23 financial year and to start producing four to five rakes of the train set from September 2022.
The factory produced 2,136 coaches so far this year. They include 162 coaches for export (136 mainline coaches and 26 air conditioned DEMU to Sri Lanka Railways).
