Puzhal Central Prison assistant jailer suspended for taking bribe from YouTuber Madan Manikkam’s wife | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Puzhal Central Prison Assistant jailer Selvam has been placed under suspension for demanding Rs 3 lakh and receiving 25,000 through Google Pay from jailed YouTuber Madan Kumar Manickam’s wife Kiruthika. Manikkam was arrested in June last year for streaming banned PUBG game and making vulgar comments. His wife had approached prison official Selvam to provide facilities for her husband. The audio conversation between Kiruthika and the prison official was leaked online on Friday.
Prison director and DGP Sunil Kumar Singh ordered for a fresh inquiry based on the leaked audio. DGP Singh said, “We have received a similar complaint against the jailer, and we have ordered for an inquiry. We have also initiated departmental action against him.” After confirming the prison official was Selvam who spoke to Kiruthika, the top cop placed him under suspension on Friday and ordered for a detailed inquiry based on the leaked audio.
The cybercrime wing of the central crime branch arrested Madan and his wife. Kiruthika was arrested as she was the administrator of his YouTube channel and she had given audio background for the live-streaming game.
Their YouTube channel has eight lakh subscribers and many of them are teenagers. They ran YouTube channels like Madan, Toxic Madan 18+, PUBG Madan Girl Fan and Richie Gaming YT. Chennai-based P K Abhishek Rabi filed a complaint against the couple and the channels under provisions of the Information Technology Act and IPC.
The complaint registered also mentioned specific titles like “MADAN angry at his girlfriend| Strictly 18+|Tamil| PUBGM| Richie GamiNg”. The video showcased women in a vulgar way violating privacy rules. As many of his followers were juveniles and teenagers, the complaint demanded a ban on the channel.
Madan had earned at least Rs 3 lakh a month through his YouTube channel, said the investigation officers. They seized three luxury cars belong to them.
Madan, engineering graduate, ran an eatery in Ambattur. But the huge losses in his business made him launch a YouTube channel to teach gaming techniques to people. After the government banned PUBG, Madan used a virtual private network (VPN) to continue to access the game.
