puthur: Tamil Nadu: Bad roads to affect conduct of temple festival | Trichy News – Times of India

TRICHY: Roads leading to the Puthur Kuzhumayee Amman temple have been dug up for underground drainage work and will affect the conduct of annual festival scheduled to be conducted by the second week of March. Two-wheelers and devotees arriving on foot to the temple through Woraiyur and kissing will face a backbreaking journey.
K Suresh, councillor representing ward 23 comprising Woraiyur, said that Trichy Corporation was apathetic in repairing roads rapidly dug for installing underground pipelines. “Even as the work for the pipeline installation was completed in both wards 23 and 24, the civic body is yet to carry out maintenance works to restore the roads. With only days left for the temple festival to start, the authorities must act swiftly,” Suresh said.
Apart from the devotees, the residents who had to frequent Woraiyur area covering Puthur Agraharam and Woraiyur market to reach the other parts of the city often slip from their two-wheelers since the pits dug up were not levelled after the DMU work.
The residents, through the councillor, have placed a demand to fill low-lying areas with a suitable mixture of soil and gravel and use heavy machinery to make the road’s surface flat. Trichy Corporation’s engineering department officials said that the road repair work would commence soon and be completed ahead of the the temple festival.
