Punjab Police’s plan to deal with violence: Learning Gatka in Muktsar after Ajnala incident; crowd clearance training

Punjab Police has started to transform itself after the clashes with Sikh mobs at Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar and Chandigarh in the past. Nihang gangs attacked the Punjab Police both in Amritsar and Chandigarh and in both the incidents the police had to retreat.

Sri Muktsar Sahib has become the first district in Punjab where police are now learning Gatka. Gatka is not only being learned here, but training has also been started on how to repel the crowd while stopping its attack.

Soon training will start in other districts also
Punjab’s DGP Gaurav Yadav had also hinted in the past that the Punjab Police would redeem itself for such attacks. It is clear that this training, which started from Sri Muktsar Sahib, will soon be imparted in the police and commissionerates of other districts as well so that incidents at Ajnala police station and Chandigarh border can be prevented in the coming days.

Gatka started from the era of Shri Hargovind Sahib
Gatka is a traditional Sikh martial art form. The originator of the word Gatka is believed to be the sixth Guru of the Sikhs, Shri Har Gobind Sahib Ji, who inspired the Sikhs to teach martial arts and conduct military trials.

Since then Gatka evolved into the traditional fighting style of the Sikh warriors, due to which Guru Har Gobind Ji is called the Badshah of Miri Piri. This style flourished between 1675-1707. When Shri Guru Hargovind Singh prepared the Sikh army.
