While the Amritsar district administration has imposed several restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it has decided to continue with the daily adrenalin rushing beating retreat ceremony held jointly by the border guarding forces of India and Pakistan at Attari but with restrictions.

According to reports, the civil administration authorities had written to the inspector general, border range on the fate of beating the retreat ceremony popularly known as flag-lowering ceremony but the decision couldn’t be taken till late evening.
Sources informed that the flag-lowering ceremony would either be limited to 50% capacity or would be allowed to be attended by 700 people which are according to the district administration’s directions on the upper limit of persons in outdoor gatherings. However, the final decision would be taken on Wednesday.
The viewers’ galleries at the Attari international border has capacity to accommodate around 25,000 viewers. Even if they go by the state government guidelines to accommodate 50% gathering in the viewers’ galleries, their number would be around 12,500.
While confirming the flag-lowering ceremony would continue, deputy commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira informed that the Attari flag-lowering ceremony would continue with restrictions as mentioned in the latest guidelines.
