Just a year before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a major change has been made in the Punjab BJP. Veteran leader Sunil Jakhar, who left Congress and joined BJP, has been given the command of Punjab. After the announcement of the name, Sunil Jakhar, who became the State President, himself went to meet National President JP Nadda.

The discussion about the name of Sunil Jakhar had started only after the rally of Home Minister Amit Shah in Gurdaspur. Talks of resignation of former Pradhan Ashwini Sharma started happening on the previous day itself. But later Ashwini Sharma had said that the matter of resignation should not be in BJP. He had collected his belongings from the office without commenting on the reshuffle. Now Sunil Jakhar will reach this office.

Had joined BJP last year
Sunil Jakhar served as a senior leader in the Congress, but after the defeat of the Congress last year, he joined the BJP in May 2022. He joined the party in the presence of BJP national president JP Nadda. Jakhar has been MLA from Abohar twice and MP from Gurdaspur once. Jakhar also served as the state Congress president from 2012 to 2017.

The BJP hopes that these are the faces who can help it reach its target of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.

2020 Ashwini became Punjab chief in
On 18 January 2020, Ashwani Sharma became the President of Punjab BJP for the second time. After this, the party contested the assembly elections and the Sangrur and Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-elections under his chairmanship, but the party had to face a crushing defeat. He was made the state president for the first time in 2010.
