An hour after Kate shared a rare video message on her and Prince William’s official social media accounts on March 22, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released an official statement.

“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” Harry and Meghan said in a statement shared with People. It appears that the estranged in-laws are trying to mend relations despite their long-standing disagreements in the midst of Kate’s illness.

After undergoing a stomach surgery in January, Kate Middleton went away from the public spotlight. Conspiracy theories suggesting problems within the royal palace were trending on social media rapidly. The princess finally spoke about her situation in a video that was made public on March 22.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” the Princess of Wales said in the video message.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped aside from their roles in 2020, breaking their relationship with the British royal family. Since then, the couple have brought up allegations of racism and maltreatment against the British press, as well as inadequate media support from the royal family.
