Kapil Sibal made a statement in September, 2021. While in the Congress, he took the leadership of the party under wraps and said, “The Gandhi family should leave the leadership of the Congress and a new president should be elected soon.” After this statement the party split into two factions. Some Congress workers gheraoed his house. His car was also vandalized in the demonstration. After this, Kapil was constantly seen opposing the umbrella rule of the Gandhi family on the Congress party.

Left IAS job and started advocating
Kapil Sibal, 74, was born on 8 August 1948 in Jalandhar, Punjab. Kapil came to Delhi at the age of 16 i.e. in 1964. Studied law for 5 years and history for 2 years in Delhi itself. Joined the Bar Association in the year 1972.

In the year 1973, Kapil passed the IAS i.e. Indian Administrative Services exam. A job offer also came but Kapil turned down the job and started his own legal practice. Then after 2 years in 1975 he went to Harvard University and in 1977 completed LLM i.e. Master of Laws.

Saved the Chief Justice of Chandigarh by going to Parliament in 1994
After doing LLM from Harvard, Kapil came back to India. Started practice and only after 6 years i.e. in 1983 started being called Senior Lawyer. In 1989, he was made the Additional Solicitor General of India. In 1993, the Chandigarh High Court Justice was impeached. In 1994, Kapil went to Parliament and defended the judge of the Chandigarh High Court.

Became President of the Supreme Court Bar Association thrice from 1995 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2002. Kapil has inherited law. His father Hiralal Sibal was also a well-known lawyer of the country. He was also awarded the title of Living Legend of Law of the International Bar Association.

Lost first election to Sushma then defeated Smriti Irani
Kapil entered politics in the year 1996. PV Narasimha Rao gave him Congress ticket from South Delhi but lost to Sushma Swaraj by more than 1 lakh votes.

By the year 1998, Kapil Sibal was considered a specialist in constitutional law. Due to his ability, Congress made him a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar. Now Kapil had become a Congressman. From 2000 to 2002, he worked there as Secretary of Parliamentary Membership of Congress.

Contested Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk in 2004 on Congress ticket and reached Parliament by defeating Smriti Irani of BJP. After this he also won the 2009 elections.

Handled the Ministry of Communications, Law and Science from 2004 to 2014

Kapil Sibal has gone to the South Pole and Antarctica with a research team as the Minister of Technical Development.

Manmohan Singh took over as Prime Minister in the year 2004. Kapil Sibal was made the Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Science. From 2009 to 2012, he handled the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He was also the Minister of Communications from 2011 to 2014. He was also the Law Minister of the country from 2013 to 2014. He kept a strong side of the Congress in the allegations of scams while running the government.

15 lakhs for a hearing
In 2015, it was reported on the Mint website that Kapil Sibal charges Rs 8 to 15 lakh for a one-time appearance in the Supreme Court. According to other reports, charge up to Rs 20-25 lakhs. At the same time, in the High Court, they charge 8 to 10 lakh rupees for a hearing.
