Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be watching the World Cup final match at the ‘Narendra Modi Stadium’ in Ahmedabad on Sunday. News18 was the first to report on Friday that the prime minister will be going to watch the match.

“Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia as well as dignitaries including Central Government Ministers and Chief Ministers of other states are also expected to come to Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium to watch this final match,” the Gujarat CM posted on microblogging site X.

A source in the government in Delhi said the prime minister saw him being present on the occasion as his responsibility, and he feels that the Indian cricket team players have worked hard to get to the final.

India has reached the final after 12 years and the full might of the government in the form of central ministers and BJP chief ministers of various states will be present at the Narendra Modi stadium to cheer on the team. India stands a chance to win the World Cup for the third time after 1983 and 2011.

Australia’s Deputy PM Richard Marles will also be present on the occasion. A grand air show display will be put up above the stadium by the Surya Kiran aerobatic team of the Indian Air Force before the match. Rehearsals of the same have been done by the IAF team over the last two days. There will also be special performances before the match by various artists.

Earlier in 2011, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had gone to watch the semi-final match of the World Cup between India and Pakistan in Mohali where then Pakistan PM Raza Gilani had also come. The final of this World Cup at the Narendra Modi stadium will be a star-studded affair too and a grand spectacle with over a lakh spectators present in the largest cricket stadium.
