Kanpur: Hearing on the bail application of perfume trader Piyush Jain was adjourned for one day by the court of in-charge special CJM/ACM (IInd), Kanpur Nagar on Thursday when DGGI Ahmedabad sought time for filing objections.
The presiding judge in his order allowed the adjournment application moved by special prosecutor advocate Ambrish Tandon on behalf of DGGI Ahmedabad. The special prosecutor had submitted to grant three days time to file an objection on the bail application of Piyush Jain.
In fact, Piyush Jain had moved his bail application on Wednesday and the prosecution had sought 10 days’ time to read the contents of the bail application and file its objections. But the court granted just one day’s time.
Ambarish Tandon, talking to TOI, said that in the morning he had received an email from DGGI Ahmedabad in which a request was made to grant at least three days’ time to file objections.
Piyush Jain was arrested by the DGGI Ahmadabad team when a team had raided his house in Anand Puri and had seized large amounts of money and valuables from his Kannauj residence. The DGGI had charge-sheeted Piyush Jain in a money recovery case. The charge sheet in the recovery of gold and sandal oil will be filed later.
Piyush Jain’s counsel Chinmay Pathak had submitted in a 26 pages bail application that Piyush was wrongly arrested. The Act had a provision of maximum five years imprisonment and as per law there was a provision that no arrest would be made in case the punishment is up to seven years.
Under GST law, recovery of tax was important and Piyush was ready to pay the GST. The government was losing tax as Piyush was in jail.
