At a rally in Rajasthan on Monday, Kharge claimed that while the Congress stood for the country and helped attain Independence after its leaders gave supreme sacrifices, “not even a dog of the BJP was lost” for the country.

He had also alleged that the BJP government “talks like a lion but acts like a mouse” as it is not taking on China for indulging in incursions along the border and is running away from a debate on the issue in Parliament.

Soon after papers were laid in the Upper House and the chairman announced that YSRCP leader V Vijay Sai Reddy and nominated member PT Usha have been nominated on the panel of vice chairman of the house, treasury bench members were up on their feet demanding an apology from the Congress leader.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar urged protesting treasury bench members to resume their seats and even asked Leader of House (LoH) Piyush Goyal to persuade the members to maintain decorum in the House. As protests continued, the Chairman said he does not “appreciate such unruly scenes and chaotic behaviour” in the House.

“This House, either side, is a platform of expression. This House has to reflect and take note of everything that happens outside…everything spoken here carries a great weight. Anyone wants to take anything should take recourse to rules,” he said and asked the LoH to present the point the Treasury members want to make in the House.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra said that six lakh complaints of cyber crime have been registered at the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System since its inception in 2019. Mishra said the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has been launched for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to stop siphoning off funds by fraudsters. The toll-free helpline number ‘1930’ has been operationalized for assistance in lodging online cyber complaints. “Since the inception of Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, more than six lakh complaints have been registered till December 12, 2022, and in more than 1.11 lakh complaints, so far, financial amount of more than Rs 188 crore have been saved,” he said in Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

Both Houses of Parliament also witnessed chaotic scenes as the Opposition demanded a discussion on the India-China border situation. The Winter Session of Parliament began on December 7 and is scheduled to conclude on December 29. However, according to parliamentary sources, the session could conclude on December 23 ahead of schedule.

So far, the clash between India and China in Arunachal Pradesh has been in focus in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also hosted a special “millets only” lunch for members of Parliament today afternoon to mark the “International Year of Millets” in 2023 – a special initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister also attended the lunch in the Parliament premises.

Special chefs were brought in from Karnataka to make specialities like ragi idli and ragi dosa, said sources. Rotis were made out of ragi and jowar and served to the MPs to promote millet-eating culture, added the sources. Other food items include bajra and jowar khichdi, and bajra kheer.

The United Nations has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millet (IYOM). The Indian government notified millet as a nutritious cereal in April 2018 and millet has also been included in the ‘Poshan Mission’ campaign.
