Painful That Oppn MPs Reduced Temple Of Democracy To A Theatre Of Street Fight: Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi: Lashing out at Opposition, especially the Congress, over who stormed into the Well of the House and protested throughout the Winter Session of the Parliament, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said that it is both astonishing and saddening that Opposition MPs have deviated from well-known truth about what transpired in recently concluded session, in Rajya Sabha.

“It’s both astonishing and saddening that members of the opposition, especially senior members of the Congress, have deviated from well-known truth about what transpired in recently concluded session, in Rajya Sabha,” BJP leader and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said.

The statement by Joshi comes after both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Wednesday after a deadlock between the Opposition and the government in the Rajya Sabha over the suspension of 12 Opposition MPs due to alleged unruly behaviour

“Now in order to somehow create the opposite narrative, senior members of the Congress such as Jairam Ramesh by casting aspersions on the functioning of Rajya Sabha Chairman, do a disfavour not only to the truth, but to democracy itself,” Joshi said.

Joshi also said that the government urges members of the Opposition to accept their role with grace, participate in the smooth functioning of our democracy and not make factually and morally incorrect statements.

During the Winter Session, the Opposition and the government had been at loggerheads over the suspension of 12 MPs which could not be resolved as the Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die by Chairman Venkiah Naidu who said that the house could not function properly and everyone should cooperate.

The opposition alleged that the government wanted to push bills in the house, so it suspended the MPs.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders alleged that 12 MPs were suspended for their unruly behaviour in the house after a ruckus occurred during passing of a bill on electoral reforms.

Though government passed several bills in the Parliament and withdrew all three contentious farm laws, the Opposition raked issues related to Lakhimpur Kheri, suspension of MPs and compensation for farmers who lost their lives during the protest.
