As Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo announced the winner of the Best Original Song Award for this year, Naatu Naatu was showcased on the big screen.

In 2023, when RRR secured an Oscar nomination, India held its breath for a historic moment. Fast forward to this year, and the story took a new turn. The movie, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR found itself in the spotlight again at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Although the movie wasn’t part of any nomination, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus became part of the Oscars montage, featuring the visuals of Naatu Naatu. This year, during the presentation of the Best Original Song award, the song was played on the big screen as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo announced the winner. Surprisingly, the Academy paid homage not only to the song but also to RRR’s breathtaking climax action sequence.

The song had already made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2023. For the special moment, music director MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose accepted the award and delivered a speech on stage. This year, the spotlight shifted to the pan-India film, although the focus should be on Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, who won the award in their category for the song What Was I Made For? from Barbie. The official Instagram page of the movie proudly shared the moment with the caption, “On the Oscars stage again.”

At Oscars 2024, the spotlight also shone on the unsung heroes of cinema: the stunt coordinators. In a special tribute led by nominated actors Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, the significant contribution of stunt coordinators was highlighted. Among the action sequences from iconic films, the internet was captivated by the montage from RRR. The pan-India film’s climactic scene, featuring unbelievable high-octane action, stood out among the rest.

RRR dominated the last award season. Starting with the Critics Choice Awards, the film won both the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Song awards for Naatu Naatu. Further enhancing its international applause, the song also won the Best Song award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, followed by the biggest win at Oscars.

Ram Charan and Jr NTR portrayed the roles of historical figures Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju in the period drama RRR. Set during British-occupied India, the film showcased the bravery of these iconic characters. In addition to the lead stars, the movie also featured actors such as Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, along with British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris, in key roles.
