OpenAI has rolled out the GPT 4o version through the ChatGPT store which is making money.

OpenAI announced the GPT 4o version which has catapulted the demand for AI chatbots that are available on the ChatGPT store.

OpenAI recently rolled out its latest multimodal large language model, GPT-4o, in the market. Despite the model being freely available on the web, ChatGPT’s mobile app has driven the company’s biggest-ever spike in revenue and also the most revenue in a single day ever since the model’s launch, according to a report by AppFigures. Though the tech giant claimed that the GPT-4o would be offered to users on its free tier, that promise hasn’t stretched to include users of its ChatGPT mobile app as of yet.

In the first week, mobile users were being pushed to upgrade to ChatGPT’s monthly subscription of $19.99 (Rs 1,661) and ChatGPT Plus if they wanted to experiment with OpenAI’s most recent launch. This decision increased demand for subscriptions among mobile users and led to the biggest-ever revenue spike the company has yet seen on mobile devices.

ChatGPT’s mobile revenue jumped by 22 per cent on the day GPT-4o was announced and continued to grow. This technical innovation is also pushing more users to upgrade to OpenAI’s paid subscription, as per new data from app intelligence firm Appfigures.

Its net revenue skyrocketed from a daily average of $491,000 (approximately Rs 4 crore) to nearly $900,000 (Rs 7 crore). Notably, this turned out to be the most revenue that the ChatGPT-maker app has seen in a single day since its launch, the report adds.

Before this, ChatGPT’s second-biggest spike was seen in April. The AI startup earned a total of $4.2 million in net revenue from the App Store and Google Play from May 13 to May 17. Apple’s App Store contributed the majority of the new revenue, at 81 per cent, and the US was the top market, accounting for $1.8 million in revenue.

Other top countries included Germany ($282,000), the UK ($212,000), Japan ($210,000), France ($147,000), Canada ($134,000), Korea ($123,000), Brazil ($117,000), and Australia ($102,000).

As of now, OpenAI offers GPT-4o on its website for free with time limitations. However, mobile app users have to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus to access the new model.

OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which launched on May 13, comes with multiple improvements over GPT-4. It is capable of handling text, video, speech, and a range of emotive voice options and delivers real-time responsiveness, making it a more powerful model than what was offered earlier. GPT-4o also supports the ability to upload documents and screenshots for insight and more.
