OpenAI Delays Custom GPT Store Release, Now Expected In Early 2024 – Here’s Why – News18

The custom GPTs are anticipated to enable users to share their GPTs and earn income based on user engagement.

ChatGPT maker OpenAI has delayed the launch of its custom GPT store until early 2024, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Friday.

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has announced a delay in the launch of its custom GPT store. Initially slated for November 2023, the release of the custom GPT store is now expected to happen in early 2024.

According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, the company is continuing to ”make improvements” to GPTs based on customer feedback,.

The delay comes against the backdrop of the startup’s surprise ouster of its CEO Sam Altman and his subsequent reinstatment following threats by employees to quit.

The GPTs are early versions of AI assistants that perform real-world tasks such as booking flights on behalf of a user. It is also expected to allow users to share their GPTs and earn money based on the number of users.

The decision to postpone the launch coincides with the unexpected removal and subsequent reinstatement of Sam Altman as the CEO of the startup. This move followed employee threats to resign.

In November, OpenAI introduced a feature allowing users to create personalized versions of the popular AI chatbot. Unlike traditional methods that require a solid grasp of coding, machine learning expertise, and access to extensive training data, OpenAI’s approach now allows anyone to easily build their own GPT without coding.

According to OpenAI’s blog post on November 6, the process involves starting a conversation, providing instructions and additional knowledge, and selecting capabilities such as web searching, image creation, or data analysis.

The custom GPTs, early iterations of AI assistants designed for practical tasks like booking flights, are anticipated to enable users to share their GPTs and earn income based on user engagement.

Over the coming months, builders will also be able to earn money based on how many people use their chatbot, OpenAI said in its announcement.

The ChatGPT maket has long hinted that customizable and increasingly autonomous AI models will form a significant part of its future offerings.
