Only 45.50% voting in Sangrur: lowest turnout after 31 years; Opponents said – people are disappointed with the promises of the AAP government

Government and opponents are giving their arguments regarding low voting in Sangrur seat.

The final figures for polling in Sangrur Lok Sabha seat of Punjab have been released. Only 45.50% voting took place in this seat, which was the stronghold of CM Bhagwant Mann. This is the lowest turnout in the history of Sangrur seat after 31 years. In 1991, the voter turnout was 10.9%.

Opponents have blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for the low turnout. He said that AAP did not fulfill promises like one thousand free electricity to women per month. Desperate people did not vote, while AAP says that people did not come to vote due to the heat and paddy season.

There are 5 main candidates in Sangrur seat. However, the main contest is believed to be between Aam Aadmi Party and SAD Amritsar.

The lowest voter turnout in 1991 in Sangrur Lok Sabha seat was 10.9%. There was 62.2% voting in 1996. Voter turnout was 60.1% in 1998, 56.1% in 1999, 61.6% in 2004, 74.41% in 2009, 77.21% in 2014 and 72.40% in 2019.

There are 9 assembly seats under the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat. Aam Aadmi Party won all these seats a few months back. Bhagwant Mann, who became an MLA from Dhuri seat under Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, is currently the Chief Minister of the state. While Harpal Cheema, who won from Dirba seat, is the Finance Minister in the Punjab Government and Gurmeet Meet Hair, who won from Barnala, is the Education Minister.

Opponents said – people are unhappy with the government
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Vading said that people are unhappy with the government. Those who voted for the Aam Aadmi Party did not fulfill their promises. On the other hand, BJP state president Ashwani Kumar said that the Aam Aadmi Party did not fulfill its election promises. For whom there was great enthusiasm among the people. He was disappointed to see the performance of the government, so he did not vote. Political parties should brainstorm about this.
