One person was critically wounded and another seriously injured in a collision Sunday morning between a truck and a car on Route 60, the West Bank highway where another motorist was killed in a crash last week.
Three other people were injured in the latest collision which happened close to the Havat Gilad settlement outpost in the northern West Bank.
Police said the car was a Palestinian vehicle, but gave no further details on the truck.
An investigation was opened into the incident.
The crash caused congestion on the road, the main thoroughfare through the West Bank, and police asked drivers to find alternative routes.
Last week Keren Ora Yoskovitch, a resident of the Har Brakha settlement in the West Bank, was killed and a girl 8seriously injured in a collision between two cars and a truck on Route 60. A one-year-old baby boy was also lightly injured and a man suffered moderate injuries.
A Palestinian who was lightly injured was treated by Red Crescent emergency service.
Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, blamed the government for that accident, claiming neglect of West Bank roads.
The Or Yarok road safety lobby group cited Central Bureau of Statistics figures showing that 38 people were killed last year on roads in the West Bank, and 33 in 2022. There were another 1,011 people injured last year on West Bank roads.
Or Yarok CEO Yaniv Jacob last week also blamed the poor state of roads in the West Bank.
“Years of neglect translate into deadly accidents,” Jacob said in a statement at the time. “A lack of basic infrastructure to compensate for driver mistakes and the lack of police presence to prevent life-threatening traffic offenses are major factors in the number of fatal traffic accidents.”
