Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest update, said on Sunday (June 11) that Odisha is set to face scorching hot weather conditions for the next three days. The IMD scientist Umashankar Das said that several regions in the state can expect temperatures to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal. As a result, the IMD has issued an Orange alert to warn residents about the current heatwave, which is expected to last until June 13. However, Das stated that a slight drop in temperature can be expected after that, providing some relief from the intense heatwave affecting the districts, news agency ANI reported.
As per Naresh Kumar, another IMD official, heatwave conditions continue to prevail in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. Consequently, the IMD has issued an orange alert for these regions to caution the residents, ANI reported.
The impact of the heatwave is spreading to coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The heatwave is expected to have an impact on north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next five days, the IMD official said.
Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience severe heatwave conditions for the next two days, with temperatures expected to rise 6.5 degrees above normal levels, he added.
“There are cloud patches in some regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Bay of Bengal,” he said of the monsoon. “Clouds are expected to cover more of the west coast in the next 48 hours. The majority of the monsoon is currently in the North East region, which is experiencing continuous rainfall, and we expect this region to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall above 12 cms in the next 4 to 5 days. Aside from the sub-Himalayan region, West Bengal, Sikkim, and parts of East Bihar can be reached in the next 48 hours,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
