The spirit of self-respect and sacrifice for the country has been different in the soil of India. The people here fought against the British rule and did not hold back from giving their lives. Among them was a revolutionary Jaidev Kapoor who took part in the independence of the country. Little is known that in the plan to throw a bomb in the Central Assembly on 8 April 1929, Jaidev Kapoor’s name was placed first in the list of bombers. Let’s know those untouched aspects of Jaidev Kapoor’s life.

Friend came in contact with the revolutionaries with Shiv Varma

Shiv Varma, a revolutionary friend of Jaidev Kapoor, met Singh through Jaidev Bhagat.

Shiv Varma, a revolutionary friend of Jaidev Kapoor, met Singh through Jaidev Bhagat.

To know about Jaidev Kapoor, Woman Bhaskar spoke to Bareilly-based litterateur Sudhir Vidyarthi. Sudhir Vidyarthi told that Jaidev Kapoor along with his friend Shiv Varma came in contact with the revolutionaries. He joined the group of revolutionaries who were fighting against the British. From here he became close to Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh.

Sukhdev provoked Bhagat Singh by calling him a coward

Sudhir Vidyarthi says that he first met Jaidev Kapoor in 1978 and since then started getting up and down with him. In these meetings, Jaidev told the stories of his fellow revolutionaries. Before April 6, 1929, preparations were in full swing to throw bombs in the assembly. According to the list of those who threw the bomb, Jaidev Kapoor was to throw the bomb in the assembly. But Sukhdev wanted Bhagat Singh himself to throw a bomb in the assembly. On this, Sukhdev had called Bhagat Singh a coward, “Don’t you want your name to be high in the list of revolutionaries who threw bombs” “You are a coward” These words of Sukhdev pricked Bhagat Singh. He insisted that he himself would throw bombs in the assembly.

Jaydev and Shiv Verma had arranged the entry pass

On April 6, 1929, two days before the introduction of the Safety Bill in the Council House to Jaidev, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt went to the Assembly Hall of the Council House to find out where the public galleries were and from where the bombs would be thrown. Jaidev Kapoor and Shiv Verma arranged the entry passes of Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt and got them admitted in the assembly. Only after this Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw the bomb.

Biting hands with teeth to reduce pain

Whenever Jaidev Kapoor used to remember the things of the revolutionary era, tears started pouring from his eyes. After the bombing of the assembly, the British officers put him in jail and used to beat 30 whips daily as a punishment. Jaidev used to beat Kapoor by standing on the blackboard with a whip soaked from behind, due to which the skin of the body was peeled off and when the wounds did not feel pain at night, he used to bite his hands with his teeth. Jaidev Kapoor suffered the whiplash for 60 days.

Jailer who abused Indians broke teeth

Jaidev Kapoor was sentenced to Kalapani after being caught as a conspirator in the Central Assembly bomb blast case. While serving the sentence there, Jaidev saw that the jailer was abusing the Indians, so he punched him in such a way that he broke his teeth.

Bhagat Singh’s watch and shoes are still present in Jaidev Kapoor’s house

Even today Rash Behari Bose’s watch and shoes are present in Jaidev Kapoor’s house. Wearing these shoes and watch, Bhagat Singh threw a bomb in the assembly. Actually, the shoes and the watch were handed over by Rash Behari Bose to Shachindranath Sanyal on his way to Japan. Sanyal gave these shoes and watch to Bhagat Singh. After this Bhagat Singh handed it over to Jaidev Kapoor saying that this trust belonged to Rash Behari Bose.

Married only after completing the sentence

When Jaidev Kapoor was sentenced to Kalapani in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, it was decided that he would not marry until he got freedom. When his Kalapani sentence was completed and returned home, he married in 1946 under pressure from the family.
