Surat: Investigating various cases of blackmailing over clips of men stripping during video calls, police have found that no women were directly involved in these scams. Police officials said that the accused downloaded videos of women taking off their clothes and then used it during video calls as they lured the victims to take off their clothes.
During the investigation of the complaint of Bardoli Municipal Councillor, the local crime branch of Surat Rural Police arrested a person who had confessed in this manner. The accused told the police that he did not know the woman and had downloaded the video to implicate the victims.
“Our investigation has revealed that only men are involved in such rackets. The accused used the downloaded videos of women to encourage the victims to take off their clothes,” said Rajkumar Pandian, Additional Director General of Police, Surat Range.
However, the entire trap is designed and executed in such a way that the victim gets the impression that he is chatting with a woman, the police said.
Police have arrested 24-year-old Salim Sayyed, a resident of Chiprada in Alwar district of Rajasthan. He is part of a gang which has five other members who are yet to be arrested. The gang created fake Facebook pages in the name of women and sent friendship requests on the target. If the request was accepted, they started chatting on Messenger and later asked the victim for her WhatsApp number.
The miscreants on WhatsApp chat lured the victims to have video sex and used the downloaded video of the woman stripping to lure the victim to do so. When the victim took off her clothes during the video call, the accused recorded the video through a screen recorder. Once recorded, a clip of it was sent to the victim and money was demanded for not airing it.
A police officer said, “The accused never spoke to the victims, they only chatted on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.”
