‘No Fire At Trident Hotel’: Police Clarify After Viral Video Raises Alarm Over Thick Smoke On R

Video of a plume of thick black smoke rising out of Hotel Trident’s top floor in Mumbai went viral on social media within seconds, on Sunday. However, the police and the fire brigade clarified that there was no fire at the Trident Hotel building at Nariman Point. Photos and videos of smoke coming out of the hotel went viral on social media.

On Sunday morning, black smoke was rising out of the Trident Hotel, which the netizens shared widely claiming it to be a fire. However, the management said the smoke erupted out of the chimneys inside the hotel Trident Nariman Point premises due to some routine maintenance work.

This was reiterated by fire officials saying that the reason behind the fire-like smoke was regular maintenance work in their chimney.

“It was not a fire incident but a regular maintenance drill where there was some smoke from their chimney and it seemed like a fire. We also moved our teams to the spot but nothing was there, we are still at the spot,” Mumbai Fire Brigade officials said.

Mumbai has gone through a series of fires in the past few weeks, including a major blaze that broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Kalbadevi area of south Mumbai in early June.

In May, a massive fire broke out in a commercial building in Mumbai. The blaze was caught in Chembur’s Swastik Chamber. Four fire engines were sent to the spot and the fire in the building was doused after a lot of effort. Around 33 people were safely rescued by firemen from various places such are parapet walls, rooms, terraces and staircases. No casualties were reported.
