NITI Aayog has released the fourth health index. According to this, Kerala is at the top in terms of health facilities among the big states, while Uttar Pradesh is at the last position. This is the fourth time in a row that Kerala is the best performer in terms of overall performance. At the same time, UP has topped in terms of improvement in health facilities (incremental performance) compared to 2018-19.

According to the report released by the government’s think tank, Tamil Nadu ranks second and Telangana third in terms of health performance. However, in terms of incremental performance, Kerala ranks 12th while Tamil Nadu ranks 8th. Telangana also ranks third in terms of incremental performance.

Bihar ranks second in terms of poor performance
The year 2019-20 has been assessed for the fourth round of health index. This was the period when the country was facing the first wave of Corona. Bihar ranks second and Madhya Pradesh third in terms of poor performance. At the same time, Rajasthan has the worst performance in both the cases.

Mizoram tops in overall performance among smaller states
According to the report, Mizoram tops in terms of overall performance and incremental performance among smaller states. Tripura has also performed better in both the cases. At the same time, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir have a lower rank in terms of overall performance in the Union Territories, but they are the leading performers in terms of incremental performance.

The report was prepared in collaboration with the Health Ministry
24 aspects have been taken into consideration to prepare the health index. This index can be divided mainly into three parts – Health Outcomes, Governance and Information and Inputs and Processes. This report has been prepared with technical assistance from the World Bank and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
