The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is currently evaluating a request to postpone the NEET MDS 2024 exam to July. This request was submitted on February 8

The All India Student’s Union (AISU) recently received a response to their Right to Information (RTI) request, revealing that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is currently evaluating a request to postpone the NEET MDS 2024 exam to July. The request, which was submitted on February 8, 2024, is still in the process of being considered.

The NEET MDS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master in Dental Surgery) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The exam is currently scheduled to take place on March 18, 2024.

In their post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), AISU stated, “On 08.02.2024, we filed an RTI to seek information about the NEET MDS exam postponement. Today, we received a response stating that our representations are ‘Under Process’ in the Ministry.”

Before this, AISU had written a letter to both the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health, highlighting several critical issues that require urgent attention. One of the primary concerns raised by AISU is the feasibility of conducting the NEET MDS exam in March, especially in light of the concurrent counselling process with NEET PG and the anticipated completion of internships necessary for NEET PG admissions, likely around August or September 2024.

AISU pointed out that in 2020, the NEET MDS was conducted in December, which aligned with the delayed NEET PG exam. This synchronized schedule helped ensure a fair process for students applying to both exams.

Additionally, AISU expressed concerns about the long period of inactivity that dental students might face from March until the conclusion of their internships, which could last around 6-7 months. This prolonged break not only poses a risk of disrupting academic progress but also wastes valuable time.

The AISU letter urged the relevant authorities to reconsider the schedule for the NEET MDS exam and suggested aligning it with NEET PG, preferably in July. This proposed change would not only address the concerns raised by AISU but also promote fairness and consistency for both NEET PG and MDS candidates.

Following the postponement of NEET PG 2024 to July by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), MDS aspirants have also requested a similar schedule adjustment for the NEET MDS exam.

As per the official NEET MDS information, as of now, the exam will be held on March 18, and the admit card for successfully registered candidates will be released on March 13. The internship cut-off date for NEET MDS 2024 is March 31, 2024.

Aspirants are advised to rely only on official updates shared by NBE regarding NEET MDS 2024 postponement and to keep checking the official website for updates.
