NDMA has also refused to interact with the media regarding Joshimath. The NDMA has said that organizations’ own interpretation of the data is creating confusion among people. The letter from NDMA states that the issue was raised during a meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister on January 12.

NDMA said that an expert group has been formed to assess the land subsidence in Joshimath. The disaster management agency has asked several institutes of interest to ISRO to refrain from posting anything on social media platforms till the final report about the matter comes.

It may be known that ISRO had said on Friday through satellite images that Joshimath had sunk up to 5.4 cm in just 12 days. It has been told that between 27 December 2022 and 8 January 2023, the city sank by 5.4 cm. Even before this, between April 2022 and November 2022, Joshimath had gone down by 9 cm.

ISRO’s Organization National Remote Sensing Center ie NSRC said that between the last week of December and the first week of January, Joshimath started sinking rapidly.

It can be seen in the satellite images that the subsidence zone is located in Central Joshimath including Army Helipad and Narsingh Temple. The maximum subsidence has been observed at an altitude of 2180 meters near the Joshimath-Auli road. In scientific language, it is called the crown of subsidence. On the other hand, the lower part of Joshimath situated just above the Alaknanda river is also sinking. Although this is the primary report of ISRO.

The team investigated and submitted the report to the state government. 478 houses and 2 hotels were declared as danger zones. At the same time, the Uttarakhand government decided to divide Joshimath into three zones. Till January 9, 81 families were displaced.

January 10: The demolition of two hotels in Joshimath was stopped after protests by the local people. The hotel owners said that no notice has been given to us. Along with this, he also raised the demand for compensation. The Supreme Court refused to hold an urgent hearing on the matter.

The CM told that Rs 50,000 will be given for shifting and Rs one lakh as advance for compensation. What will be the final compensation, it will be decided later.

January 12: Cracks were seen in more than 50 other houses in Joshimath, earlier the figure was 723. People said how could they give up their property without the compensation being fixed. CM Dhami held a meeting with the officials. He said that Rs 1.5 lakh would reach the accounts of the affected by the evening.

January 13: NDRF took over Hotel Malari Inn. All the surrounding roads were closed.
