NCO found guilty of sexually assaulting woman captain: Army Court Martial recommends suspension and jail sentence

An Army non-commissioned officer (NCO) in Sikkim has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman captain. Due to this, the army court martial has recommended suspension of the accused constable. Along with this, he has also been asked to give a jail term of one year.

Captain came to Sikkim for river rafting course
According to the information, this incident happened last year when the woman officer had come to Sikkim for a river rafting course in the 17 Mountain Division area. where she was staying in an official residence.

Indecent comments made by entering the room
During this, one day the NCO forcibly entered the woman officer’s room and started making obscene comments. However, the woman officer managed to escape from the room and reported the incident to the officials there. The NCO was also accused of using criminal force while attempting to outrage the modesty of the lady officer. Army officials started investigation into the matter with immediate effect. In this the NCO was found guilty.

One year jail with sacking
The court martial took place at 617 EME Battalion in Sikkim and recommended the jawan’s dismissal from service as well as a one-year jail term last week. The presiding officer in the case was Lt Col Deepak Shahi, while the prosecution lawyer was Akshit Anand. The Indian Army has been very strict regarding these matters. Over the years, several officers and men have been suspended in these cases.
