The NCB on Saturday apprehended Jaffer Sadiq, a Tamil Nadu-based alleged dealer of narcotics, in connection with the India-Australia-New Zealand drugs trafficking case in a joint operation with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.

Sadiq, a producer of Tamil films, was recently expelled by the ruling DMK from the party. He was the Chennai West deputy organiser of the DMK’s NRI wing.

The NCB has termed him the “mastermind and kingpin” of an international drugs trafficking network spread between India, Australia, and New Zealand.

On February 15, the federal anti-narcotics agency had arrested three of Sadiq’s aides — Mukesh (34) Mujibur Rahman (26) and Ashok Kumar (33) — and seized 50 kg of narcotics-making chemical pseudoephedrine in a search at a Delhi godown.

The NCB since then had been looking for Sadiq and raided properties linked to him in Tamil Nadu.

According to sources, the trio arrested last month had revealed during interrogation that Sadiq close to Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister and the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, as well as other DMK leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP MM Abdullah and Chennai West district secretary of the party N Chitrarasu.

“They also revealed that Sadiq had sent 45 consignments in the past three years containing approximately 3,500 kg of pseudoephedrine, valued at over Rs 2,000 crore,” an official said.
