MYSURU: After a lull of two years forced by Covid-19 and lockdowns, summer camps are back in Mysuru providing students a chance to learn new skills outside their classrooms.
With final examinations set to end by the month-end, primary and secondary school students have been informed about summer holidays starting in the first week of April. This has set the stage for summer camps.

“We are conducting the 20th camp of our institute this year. The response has been good,” explained Kannada actor Mandya Ramesh, who runs theatre school Natana. His month-long summer camp is open for children in the age group of 8-14 years.
Many parents said they would rather want their children to take up outdoor activities. “I’m planning to send my daughter to a sports summer camp as she has not been active in sports due to Covid-19,” said Sheela Rao, a resident from Saraswathipuram.
Vijaykumar Shivananjappa, organizer of summer swimming camp for Global Sports Association, JP Nagarsaid he is expecting good response this year. “We could not run camp in the past two years because of restrictions. We’re expecting more participants this year as students hooked to online classes all these days would like to explore outdoor activities. We launched our campaign yesterday, and we have been receiving enquiries. We get a clear picture in the next 15 days,” he said.
In many preschools, summer camp activities have started with crafts and drawing being the primary themes. Girish Baga, founder-CEO of Athena Educational Services and director of KiddieBears, said that there is “peer pressure on all schools” to hold summer camps to teach crafts and drawing.
