Mysuru: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials attached to Chamarajanagar district caught an assistant engineer attached to the minor irrigation department red-handed while allegedly receiving bribe, in Mysuru on Saturday.
According to ACB authorities, assistant engineer Rajshekhar and his superior, assistant executive engineer Shyamasundar, had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh from a complainant, who is a second-class civil contractor, for clearing Rs 3 lakh bills for work undertaken to repair Doddarayepete tank bund. Soon after the demand, the complainant approached ACB on March 4, and the next day, the official was trapped.
The civil contractor had obtained the contract through e-tender process.
Based on the complaint, Chamarajanagar ACB officials trapped Rajshekhar in Mysuru. Later, his superior ShyamSundar too was taken into custody for his connivance, an officer stated.
The trap was laid by an ACB team of officers led by DSP Sadananda Thippananavar, inspectors Kiran Kumar and Lakshmidevi, and staffers MahadevaswamySatish, Manjunath, Krishnakumarand Guru.
