The crook Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva (48), who came to appear in Lucknow’s Kaiserbagh court on Wednesday afternoon, was shot dead. Jeeva was the shooter of the Mukhtar Ansari gang. The attacker came in the dress of a lawyer. At 3.50 pm, he fired 5-6 rounds from 9 MM pistol in the court room itself. Jeeva died on the spot in the attack. A girl child, her mother and two policemen were injured in the firing.

After the incident, the assailant who was running away from the spot was caught by the lawyers. beat him. The police somehow rescued him. The name of the attacker is Vijay alias Anand Yadav. He is a resident of Jaunpur. Cases are registered against him in Azamgarh and Jaunpur.

Why Vijay killed Jeeva is not known. A large number of police have been deployed in the court. After the incident, the lawyers manhandled the police. After taking many policemen out of the gate, the gate was closed.

SIT constituted to investigate the incident
CM Yogi Adityanath has formed SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate the incident. Report has been sought in 7 days. Joint CP Upendra Agarwal said, “Police had taken Sanjeev Jeeva in custody to the SC/ST court. He was waiting for the hearing. As soon as he started entering the courtroom, shots were fired from behind.” The assailant opened fire targeting Jeeva. This created a stampede. Jeeva fell on the ground in the court.

After some time, the police reached the spot and took Jeeva and three other injured to Balrampur Hospital. The CMS of the hospital, Dr. GP Gupta told that when Jeeva was brought, she had already died. At the same time, 18-month-old girl Lakshmi has been shot in the chest. His condition is critical. He has been referred to higher center. A policeman was shot in the leg. While the other is injured in the stampede.

Mother Neelam told baby Lakshmi, “I had come with the baby girl to advocate for her father-in-law’s case. The baby girl had fallen asleep, so I had made her lie on the ground. Mukhtar was a sharp shooter of Ansari, was produced in the murder case
Jeeva was the shooter of Mukhtar Ansari. In 2019, he was shifted from Mainpuri Jail to Lucknow Jail. Since then he was lodged in Lucknow Jail. He was presented in the Lucknow court on Wednesday in connection with a murder that took place in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow in 2016.

Recently, his property was also attached by the Muzaffarnagar administration. Jeeva was a resident of Muzaffarnagar. According to police records, Jeeva had more than 22 cases registered against him. He was acquitted in 17 of these cases.

On February 10, 1997, BJP’s strongman Brahmadutt Dwivedi was murdered by Jeeva. In this case, Jeeva was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003. According to the police, Jeeva had also formed his own gang. It has more than 35 members. He used to operate this gang from jail.

Jeeva’s name figured in the 2005 murder of BJP leader Krishnanand Rai. However, Mukhtar and Jeeva were acquitted in this case. Jeeva came in contact with Mukhtar Ansari in the year 2000 through Munna Bajrangi. Since then Mukhtar had become a special shooter. According to the police, Jeeva used to use weapons like AK-47, AK-56 and SLR.

Police sources say that Mukhtar was fond of hi-tech weapons. Jeeva had a clever network of arms collection. Jeeva was convicted in the 2017 murder case of businessman Amit Dixit alias Goldie in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The court sentenced life imprisonment to 4 convicts including Jeeva.

Jeeva has one brother and two sisters. He has three sons and one daughter. Jeeva has cases of murder, robbery, dacoity, extortion, kidnapping and forgery registered in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad and Haridwar. The police administration has so far attached Jeeva’s property worth Rs 4 crore under the Gangster Act.

Jeeva’s wife had expressed fear of murder
In February 2021, Jeeva’s wife Payal Maheshwari wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In this letter, she expressed the apprehension of killing her husband Jeeva. Payal had said – Jeeva can be killed inside the jail or during his appearance in the court. The wife also wrote in the letter that on January 30, 2021, a senior officer reached the jail and threatened to kill her during the production. Payal had demanded through a letter that her husband’s production should be done through video conferencing.

Jeeva’s gang was registered at the state level
In September 2019, Jeeva’s gang was registered with the State Crime Records Bureau. At that time 22 cases were registered against Jeeva. Of these, 8 cases were registered in Muzaffarnagar, 3 in Haridwar, one in Shamli, two in Meerut, one in Ghazipur, one in Shamli, one in Delhi Special Cell, one in CBI Lucknow, one in Barabanki.
