Mumbai Police is searching for Nupur Sharma, suspended from BJP for the last 5 days after controversial remarks on Prophet, but nothing is being found about him. A team of Mumbai Police is in Delhi to arrest Sharma. According to sources in the Maharashtra government, the police have enough evidence against Nupur Sharma.
A police officer from Bhiwandi said that a mail had come to the station from Nupur Sharma’s lawyer, in which he had sought four weeks to record his statement.
Nupur Sharma is accused of insulting religion
Nupur Sharma had made a comment on Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate and after that the very next day Mumbai Police registered a case in this matter at Bhiwandi Police Station. The case was filed by Irfan Shaikh, joint secretary of Raza Academy. Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey said that a case was registered against Nupur Sharma on the night of 29 May. A case has been registered against Nupur Sharma under section 295A of IPC. Under this, he has been accused of hurting religious sentiments. Apart from this, a case has been registered under section 153A for increasing enmity between two groups.
BJP suspended after controversial statement on Prophet
After the controversial statement on Prophet, BJP had suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma from the party for 6 years. BJP had said in this matter that we respect all religions and their worshippers. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh had issued a letter saying that BJP is a party that respects all religions. After this Nupur herself had issued a statement on social media saying – I did not intend to hurt anyone. I take my words back.
Delhi Police has also registered an FIR.
Delhi Police has registered an FIR against 32 people including Nupur Sharma, Asaduddin Owaisi and Swami Yeti Narasimhanand in the hate speech case. Delhi Police said that a case has been registered against Nupur Sharma under various sections. Some of these sections are non-bailable.
