Motorists Throng Fuel Stns Amid Fear Of Price Hike | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: Fearing a surge in fuel prices due to record increase in the rate of international crude oil and after the assembly election results in 5 states on Thursday, the residents have been rushing to the petrol stations to refuel their vehicle tanks to the brim and also stocking up petrol and diesel.
There has been 25-40% rise in the demand of petrol and diesel in the last one week, said the officials of state oil companies. Crude prices have broken 14 years record and reached around $130 per barrel and it may rise further if the Russia-Ukraine crisis drags on.
Petrol was being sold at Rs105.93 per litre and diesel at Rs91.16 per litre in Patna on Wednesday.
Ajay Kumar, manager of a fuel station near Dak Bunglow crossing, said they are witnessing a rush of vehicles and maximum customers want their tanks to be full. “In the last one week, I have noticed that the daily sale of petrol has increased from 10,500 kilo litres to 13,000 kilo litres. Similarly, the daily sale of diesel has also gone up to 8,500 kilo litres from earlier 6,000 kilo litres. We think the sudden rise in fuel demand is due to increase in rates of crude oil in international market. There are chances that the prices of petrol and diesel may increase further,” he apprehended.
Ajit Kumar, proprietor of a petrol pump at Bailey Road, told TOI on Wednesday that there has been a jump of 20% in demand of fuel amid the rumours of hike in prices of petrol and diesel. “Earlier, those who used to get oil of Rs100 to 500 are now buying it worth Rs1000-1200. The sudden rise was first witnessed on the last polling day of assembly elections in the five states,” he said.
Vijay Kumar, a salesperson at a fuelling station near Gandhi Maidansaid the customers frequently ask them when the prices of petrol and diesel might rise. “Around 25-30% rise was seen in the fuel sales. Customers are getting their vehicle tanks filled. Some people, especially auto drivers, are taking extra fuel in bottles and jars,” he added.
A long queue of motorists was visible at different fuelling stations in the state capital on Wednesday. Kundan Singha resident of Boring Canal Road said, “I have seen several messages that the prices of fuel may increase this week. It could be any day, so I have got the tanks of my bike and car full,” he said.
“I fear that if the prices of petrol and diesel start rising again, it will impact the rates of other commodities and transportation. I took fuel of Rs500 for my scooty, without taking any chance,” said Tanya Sinhaa resident of Ashiana Colony.
