Oreva Group’s MD Jaisukh Patel, accused in the Morbi bridge accident, surrendered in the Morbi court on Tuesday. The court sent him to jail. In the same month, the Gujarat Police filed a 1262-page charge sheet in this case. In this, Jaisukh Patel was made the main accused in the case of bridge collapse. On January 24, a Gujarat court issued an arrest warrant against Patel.

135 people died in the Morbi bridge accident on 30 October 2022.

The sessions court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea
The Gujarat Police has arrested nine people in connection with the Morbi bridge collapse. These include four employees of Oreva Group. Jaisukh Patel’s name is also registered as an accused in the FIR. Jaisukh had filed a petition in Morbi’s sessions court on January 20 seeking anticipatory bail, but the court rejected it.

The High Court had issued a notice to the group
The Gujarat High Court is hearing the matter. The High Court had last month issued notice to Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Oreva Group), the company that maintains and operates the Morbi Suspension Bridge. The petitioner has sought that the company be made liable to pay for the damages caused by the accident. The Ajanta Company had contracted with Devprakash Solutions to repair the bridge.

The bridge was thrown open to the public during the Diwali holidays without informing the government or obtaining a fitness certificate.

Patel 10th accused
Earlier, Morbi Chief Judicial Magistrate MJ Khan had issued an arrest warrant against Patel. Patel’s name was not there in the police FIR. After investigation, Patel’s name was added as the 10th accused.

expressed willingness to compensate
Recently, in the Gujarat High Court, the owner of Oreva Group, Jaysukh expressed his desire to give compensation to the families of those killed. Patel told the court that he was saddened by the accident and wanted to pay compensation to the injured himself. On this, the court had said that he cannot escape from the allegations leveled against him.

More than 135 people died
The suspension bridge over the Machchu river in Morbi town had collapsed on October 30 last year. 135 people had died in the accident. 40 children were also among the dead. The Oreva Group was operating the bridge under an agreement with Morbi Municipality.
This bridge broke down just 5 days after it was opened for the common people.
