Meta Quest headsets can playback Apple’s Spatial Videos too.

Per Meta’s announcement, the upcoming v62 OS update will enable the Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro to playback Spatial Videos captured on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple will officially introduce the Vision Pro in the United States, marking the debut of their first new product line in nearly ten years in span of a few hours. The mixed-reality ‘spatial computer’ comes packed with a range of new features designed to attract potential buyers. Among these features is the capability to play back ‘Spatial Videos’ recorded on iPhone 15 Pro models.

However, you don’t have to shell out the hefty $3,500 price tag to enjoy these videos. A more budget-friendly alternative exists—simply buy Meta’s competing Quest lineup of headsets.

As per Meta’s announcement, the upcoming v62 OS update will enable the Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro to playback Spatial Videos captured on the iPhone 15 Pro. It’s worth noting that the distribution of this update will be gradual over the next few weeks, so not everyone may receive it simultaneously.

For those not familiar, Apple’s Spatial Videos are recorded in 1080p at 30fps and can be viewed as standard 2D videos on your iPhone. However, the unique feature lies in the ability to play them on the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in a 3D environment, presented within a floating window. This is facilitated by using both the main camera lens and the ultrawide lens of the iPhone 15 Pro to capture the videos, resulting in a stereoscopic effect.

$3,500 Vs $500

Apple Vision Pro headset carries a hefty price tag of $3,499, while Meta’s Quest 3 comes at a significantly more affordable $499. This translates to a substantial $3,000 cost difference for comparable functionality. While the Vision Pro gets superior native playback, thanks to its high-resolution OLED displays, the Quest 3 offers a compelling and cost-effective alternative, making for an interesting and enjoyable comparison.
