You can finally delete your Threads profile without deleting your Instagram account.
It is now finally possible to independently delete your Meta Threads profile without affecting your Instagram account. Here’s how you do it.
Meta’s Threads is gradually shaping up to be a serious competitor to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and is starting to add multiple features that were missing on launch, like being able to edit posts, and only recently, it has also added the ability to delete one’s Threads profile independently without deleting their Instagram account. Yes, until now, it was impossible for you to delete your Threads profile unless you deleted your Instagram account.
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri took to Threads to reveal this rollout, alongside another feature which lets you turn off post suggestions from showing up on Meta’s other platforms like Instagram or Facebook.
“We’re rolling out a way for you to delete your Threads profile separately from your Instagram account,” Mosseri announced on Threads. And now, if you want to delete your Threads profile, all you need to do is—visit Settings, then head to ‘Account,’ go to ‘Delete or Deactivate Profile,’ and then finally select delete.

In the screenshot shared by Mosseri, we can see that deleting your profile is permanent, and once done, all your profile data including replies, posts, and media files will be hidden, and after 30 days, permanently deleted. And on the same page, Meta also notes that this deletion only applies to the Threads profile, and that your Instagram account will not be deleted or deactivated.
Meta has also made it possible to disable the display of post suggestions on Meta’s other platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook. This follows user dissatisfaction with Meta’s Threads integration, particularly the ‘For You on Threads’ carousel in Instagram and Facebook feeds. To do so, open the Threads app and go to Privacy. You will then see ‘Suggesting posts’ with separate toggles for Instagram and Facebook. To turn off the carousel on either Facebook or Instagram, simply toggle the settings as desired.
