Purvi Nanda is a resident of the Udaipur district in Rajasthan.

Cracking the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam is a significant achievement, often pursued with the assistance of coaching classes. However, there are exceptions, and Purvi Nanda, an IRS officer from Rajasthan, stands out as a rare individual who achieved success solely through self-study.

Hailing from Udaipur, Purvi completed her schooling at St. Mary’s School, Udaipur, and later earned an LLB degree from the National Law University in 2019. The journey towards UPSC began when she decided to appear for the prestigious exam, driven by her father Pitambar Nanda’s dream of seeing her as an IAS officer. While the dream of becoming an IAS officer is yet to be realized, Purvi secured success in the UPSC 2020 exam, claiming the 224th rank.

Purvi’s approach to UPSC preparation sets her apart—she chose not to enrol in coaching classes. Instead, she dedicated herself to rigorous self-study, committing 10 to 11 hours each day to her preparation. Her strategy included solving previous years’ question papers, a proven method to understand the exam pattern and refine one’s knowledge base. During this intense preparation, Purvi took a sabbatical from social media and limited her phone usage, demonstrating her focus and determination.

The outcome of her dedicated efforts was evident when Purvi secured the IRS cadre, finding a place in the Income Tax Department. Beyond her professional achievements, Purvi is also a published author. In her book titled “Behind the Scene: The Untold Stories of UPSC Aspirants,” she provides insights into the struggles faced by UPSC aspirants and chronicles her journey of cracking the exam without external coaching assistance.

Purvi Nanda’s success story inspires, highlighting that while coaching classes are a common path, determined individuals can achieve remarkable feats through focused self-study. Her accomplishments underscore the value of perseverance, dedication, and strategic preparation in navigating the challenges of the UPSC examination.
