Kozhikode: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the media plays a critical role in ensuring that there is active participation of people from all walks of life to guarantee large-scale transformation in India.
Inaugurating the year-long centenary celebrations of Mathrubhumi daily online, Modi said on Friday that the positive impact played by the media could be seen in implementing ambitious projects like Swachh Bharat Mission and popularising yoga, fitness and the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme.
“For a nation to develop, making good policy is one aspect; but to enable policies to succeed and ensure that large-scale transformation takes place, active participation from all walks of society is needed. For that, the media plays a critical role,” he said, adding that every media house had taken up Swachh Bharat Mission.
Modi pointed out that Mathrubhumi is a key part of the glorious tradition of newspapers and journals founded all across India to unify the people against colonial rule. He said that in today’s age, the world has many expectations from India. He said that powered by talented youth, India was moving towards self-reliance.
Elaborating on the measures taken by the government on this front, he said that unprecedented reforms were brought in to boost the country’s economic progress and production-linked incentives were introduced in different sectors to encourage local enterprises.
He added that India’s startup ecosystem has never been more vibrant in the field of technological advancement. In over four years, the number of UPI transactions has increased by over 70 times. This shows the eagerness of the people to embrace positive changes, he said. He added that Rs 110 lakh crore was being spent on a national infrastructure pipeline.
