MCD denies school infrastructure poorer than Delhi government schools

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj along with other leaders of the party visited MCD schools on Saturday and live-streamed the visit on social media platforms claiming that the infrastructure of the MCD schools is in poor condition.

Now, the MCD has claimed that the infrastructure of these schools is better than Delhi Government Schools.

MCD has said, “The intrusion by a group of 30-40 people into the schools was uncalled for and little children had to suffer a rude break in their harmonious rhythm of their learning process.”

The civic body said, “A reckless competition to parade video clips of MCD classrooms on Twitter and other social media platforms began in order to prove that MCD schools have poor infrastructure and have overburdened teachers and overflowing classes. It is hoped that NCPCR, Delhi Commission of Women, DCPCR, etc. take note of such breach and call for appropriate action against trespassers in schools who put safety and security of children at bay.”

Hitting back at AAP, the MCD further said, “It was claimed on Twitter that the infrastructure of Delhi government schools is better than MCD schools. MCD completely denies such a claim. It also asks those who question the infrastructure of MCD schools to give a thought to whether MCD is getting its funds for infrastructure as provided for in the rules of government business. It is a sad commentary that the funds given by the Delhi government to MCD schools have been a trickle in comparison to gush of funds for Delhi government schools.”

“Broadly, the funds allotted by the Delhi government to MCD under Infrastructure creation/capita assets/repair & maintenance have been Rs 0 (zero rupees) in 2020-21, Rs 21 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 7.5 crore in 2022-23 for over 1,535 MCD schools. In comparison to this, Delhi government schools have been provided more than Rs 1,500 crore every year for its 1100 schools,” the MCD further added.

1,783 teachers to be inducted

MCD has already sent requisition of 1,783 teachers and the process is likely to be complete soon and the teachers will be appointed soon.

“Regarding the burden on teachers, due to their dedication to duty, our school’s enrolment has been increasing since last three years regardless of alleged poor infrastructure. Anyway, once the teachers are selected by DSSSB, there will be sufficient number of teachers,” An officer added.

Performance tracking online

The MCD stated that the schools under MCD run the classes for Hindi, Maths and English under Mission Buniyad whereas in Delhi government schools only Hindi and Maths were covered. “Monthly planner has been introduced in MCD schools. The improvement process in pedagogical skills of teachers is always underway for more effective teaching while emphasis is laid on individual attention to students through a Weekly Assessment sheet for each student. Further, performance of every school is being tracked online in respect of growth in learning of students,” MCD said.

It further added, “It is emphasized that the Corporation do not let any child go back without admission, irrespective of the fact that teachers or rooms are less. MCD believes that every child has a right to education and it will continue to discharge its mandate regardless of so-called poor infrastructure.”
